Hardware-in-the-Loop systems
HIL systems can help the development of engine control strategies by lowering the overall testing costs and shortening the time associated with engine testing.
We successfully developed both "smart" HIL systems, mainly based on models, and passive ones, which are basically data repliers capable of reproducing every signal generated by engine/vehicle sensors.
Other systems has been implemented to integrate a set of signals that are not available on the test bench, typically the vehicle generated data, in such a way to make the ECU "think" it was actually driving the whole vehicle and not just a naked engine on a bench. In this case most of the previously required road/track testing is avoided, thus bringing huge savings both in time and money.
HIL system can range from small, low channel count, cRIO based systems, up to high channel count, high loop rate, PXI systems.
